INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Congratulations to junior Mark Grichevsky who was accepted into the Teen Academy Internship Program of the International Center of Photography on full scholarship. The International Center of Photography is a world class art organization offering art education classes and seminars as well as housing a museum which exhibits the work of prominent photographers. Mark is among 17 talented students selected from a pool of 100 applicants who will be participating in this year long internship program.


Professional Women Photographers Student Awards

Congratulations to senior Alexia Arthurs who has received an honorable mention award from the Professional Women Photographers Student Award competition. Alexia is one of only three students citywide to have won this prestigious award. The artwork in the competition was judged by a distinguished panel of photographers and other industry professionals. In addition to her cash prize, Alexia’s photographs will be exhibited at the Pratt Institute in Manhattan on March 23, 2006 when she will receive her award, as well as on the Professional Women Photographers website:  www.pwponline.org/awards/2006/
    

The Professional Women Photographers is a non profit organization that has been educating the public about the art of photography and supporting the work of women photographers for over thirty years. This is the second year of the competition which is open to all young women, juniors and seniors, enrolled in a New York City public high school. Once again, congratulations to Alexia.

 

Scholastic Art Awards Exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art

Congratulations to our students whose photographs received awards from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards of 2006 - NYC Regional competition. The awards ceremony and exhibition was held at the Brooklyn Museum of Art in April of 2006.


P.S ART 2006
Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids

Congratulations to senior Alexia Arthurs whose photograph “Life’s Order” has been selected for inclusion in the P.S. Art 2006 exhibition and publication. The exhibition is scheduled to open this coming June 2006 and will be mounted at the Tweed Courthouse, the headquarters of the NYC Dept. of Education. The exhibition is then scheduled to be on display at the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, DC from September 15 -November 30, 2006

   

5th Annual City Wide Graphic Art Competition

Congratulations to junior Mark Grichevsky, a student in our photography program, who has won first prize in the digital photography category of the 5th Annual City Wide Graphic Arts Competition.  Mark was one of many NYC Public High School students who participated in this competition which was held at the NYC College of Technology in Brooklyn, NY. The competition was sponsered by the NYC Department of Education and was held  in May 2006. As a first prize winner Mark received a trophy, digital camera, and a roundtrip to USA TODAY  headquarters in McLean, VA for a tour and a hands on experience workshop.
