Congratulations to our students whose photographs received awards from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2012 - NYC Regional competition. Gabriella Teruel received a silver award and Lissette Tlatelpa received a gold award for their photographs that were submitted to the competition. The awards ceremony and exhibition was held at the Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education in the Bronx.






P.S. Art 2012

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: This is the 10th year anniversary of the P.S. Art competition and exhibition. The P.S. Art competition was created to acknowledge outstanding student artwork in grades PreK to 12 through an exhibition of student work and a catalogue publication. The New York City Department of Education and Studio in a School convene panels of acclaimed artists, notable arts professionals and respected art educators to serve in two rounds of judging. The final selection of artwork highlights the outstanding work of our students and the exemplary practices of their teachers as it relates to the Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Visual Arts .

Finalists


Congratulations to juniors Eliza Khekht and Alan Leskov whose photographs “Dramatic Flight” and “Peeking Through” have been selected from over 800 entries to be in the P.S. Art 2012: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of NYC Kids exhibition. P.S. Art 2012 features over seventy works of art created by New York City public school students in all five boroughs. The exhibition showcases the extraordinary student talent and exemplary teaching that resides in the art capital of the world. The P.S. Art 2012 exhibition will be on display at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in the Ruth and Harold D. Uris Center for Education. P.S. Art will be on exhibit at The Metropolitan Museum of Art from June 12th through August 12th and will then move on to the Tweed Court House.

Astoria Federal Savings 2012 Teen Photo Contest



Congratulations to senior Francois Edmond for having been selected as one of the 12 winners of the Astoria Federal Savings “2012 Teen Photo Contest”. In this year's contest, 13 to 19 year olds were encouraged to use their cameras and their creative approaches to capture the theme, “Eye on Style: People, Fashion and Trends.” The winning photos were chosen based on their composition, clarity, and originality in depicting the theme. The winning photographers each won a $250 cash prize, while their schools benefited as well with a $100 grant for their art teachers' classroom use. An awards ceremony and reception will be held on Tuesday, June 5 at the corporate offices of Astoria Federal Savings.
